Clean energy in Dandenong.

A major manufacturer of medical products, over 36% sustainable with solar power.

We installed a 100 kWP rooftop solar array to maximise the returns from STCs using available roof space.

Upstream delivered a massive saving, more than halving Defries' daytime energy costs.

The total amount Upstream will save Defries Industries by funding their own private power station.

The solution

Established in 1981 in Melbourne, Australia by the de Fries family, the company was founded as a medical manufacturing business. In 2015 Defries opened their new Head Office in Dandenong South and a new state-of-the-art cleanroom, which more than doubled their former manufacturing and processing capacity.

With considerable energy costs, Defries engaged Upstream to design, fund and commission a 100kW solar system on a low cost, fixed price consumption PPA.

The result was an immediate 54% reduction in their energy spend - an incredible result considering Defries had zero capital outlay, no maintenance requirements and will take ownership of the asset in a few years.

Upstream considers this to be an excellent example of just how well we can produce immediate energy savings from on-site clean generation - your own private power stations, built to specification.
